Welcome to North Coast 2025

Register now!
North Coast's Sailing School formally began in 2001, but our organization has been teaching kids to sail in some form since 1988. Ever since then, we've been putting little kids in big boats and building their skills ever bigger. We love to watch our young sailors develop independence, self reliance, and confidence in addition to their sailing skills. We hope to see you this summer!

KinderSail (Ages 5-7)
Got an excited youngster who's eager to get on the water but can't quite fill the boots it takes to be on their own boat? KinderSail might be just right for them!

Sailors can join us for 3 days of sailing with experienced instructors to get used to the feel of the wind in their hair
on one of our 23-foot Sonars. Participants should be able to handle themselves on a moving platform without falling over, and must have a keen hunger for adventure.
Pirate garb and eye-patches not provided, but encouraged.
This class is held at Washburn Marina.
$120 for the class
$60 for full time local residents

Youth Opti (Ages 8-12)

Join us for a 5 day class on Lake Superior to learn the basics of sailing, including rigging, terminology, points of sail, boat handling, knot tying, and general seamanship. Our instructors ensure each student is challenged, regardless of ability or experience, in a fun, safe, and encouraging environment.

New this year! We have three different levels to choose from! Optis 1 is available to everyone, regardless of skill level, even returners! Optis 2 is only available to those who've taken an Opti class before! Optis 3: Racing is our advanced class for those ready to step up their skills to the next level!

$200 for the week
$100 for full time local residents

420 Bridge (Ages 13-18)
A class for those teen sailors who have previously only sailed Optis and are making the jump to the 420 boat. This 3 day course puts an experienced instructor alongside students in every boat for the full three days of the course.
Only six spots are available in each of these courses in order to ensure we have enough instructors for each boat.
Our goal for this class is to make sure students feel confident going into their 420 class, or maybe even give them a leg up!
