Certification Courses
Water Safety Instructor
Check back for 2025 Dates. This course is 4 days, typically 2 consecutive weekends.
(Must attend all 4 sessions and complete the online portions to complete the course)
Registration: $250 all course participants (We will pay your certification fee if you commit to working for the Bayfield Rec Center)
This course is presented as a Blended Learning course. There is a prerequisite online portion of the course that must be completed before the first day of the course.
This course, also known as WSI, trains American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials, conduct training sessions, and evaluate participants’ progress. The courses and presentations include Parent and Child Aquatics Levels 1 and 2, Preschool Aquatics Levels 1 - 3, Learn-to-Swim Levels 1 - 6, three adult courses as well as Basic Water Rescue, and Personal Water Safety courses and more. To enroll, candidates must be at least 16 years of age on or before the last day of the course and successfully complete the precourse session, including the demonstration of swimming skills at Learn-to-Swim Level 4.

Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED which is valid for 2 years.
We will pay your certification fee if you commit to working for the Bayfield Rec Center
The Bayfield Rec Center is able to offer free certification to high school aged students.

Red Cross Lifeguarding- Recertification Course

The Lifeguarding Recertification course is designed to refresh your knowledge and skills. Upon successful completion, you will renew your certification for another two years.
To participate in the Lifeguarding Recertification class you must have a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification, and certification expired by no more than 30 days.
